Lattices: trends for open spaces

Since long ago, architecture has opted for open spaces and free plants, generating broader and fluid views involving more architectural elements that its measures, generating sensations of spaciousness and freedom. The living and dining rooms that many years ago were independent spaces separated by walls, are now connected not only among themselves but also with kitchens, service areas which now receive more attention in our homes. Designing these large spaces is a fundamental task; if you do not know how to mix each of the elements that you want to incorporate in them, you could get either empty or crowded environments.

Light colors help us always to get more enlightened and visually-wider spaces; if it is a smooth floor, they also serve to bring unity to our walls and if we add a little texture, also bring shine and a discreet play of light and shadows. The media plastered surfaces help us do this effect, they are not as rough to appear rustic as flat surfaces to generate monotony and boredom. As for color, the old-whites, beiges and French-grays ​​are options to keep in mind as they are very combinable with all furniture and accessories so we have many alternatives to choose from, its tone is very warm and inviting and they have been repositioned as a basis for interior design colors in recent years, including carpentry that has opted for natural woods such as oak and maple.

Curtains and blinds play an important role in the design of your walls; to get continuity you need to choose elements of simple lines that do not attract attention and keep the color you have chosen for the surfaces. For a contemporary and simple design, we recommend Roman shades and fabric rolls in the color of the walls that do not highlight the context with some details which will add interesting lighting; if you want classic spaces, you can incorporate smooth fabric curtains but never fabric blinds unless you're designing an office or boardroom.

If you opted for fluids walls, you must be careful about the design of floors to help define the spaces and above all, facilitate the placement of furniture. Ceramic, marble and wood are an easy option that can relate to the other elements of your interior without gaining too much prominence. A slight change of colors and textures can be used to properly divide environments; maintaining monochrome, you can choose ceramic or marble in cream, ivory and pink shades in oversized tiles placed without boards, preventing the separation between the parts to distract from the amplitude you want to achieve, or light-colored natural staves. Shiny floors help maintain wide spaces but require constant cleaning and maintenance, contrary to the matte that hide dust but visually reduce lighting and space dimension; to get the benefits of both, we recommend a satin or velvet finish which will keep the reflections and lighting but with low maintenance.

Continuous ceiling in fluid areas are dull and can overshadow your interior; we recommend playing with indirect lighting in warm colors, achieving cozy and clean spaces to which you can add attenuation systems to obtaining a multitude of environments and accompany with direct illumination generating independent atmospheres in each of your spaces. The chandeliers are a very attractive option but it is important to measure the available height for you must respect the scale of all your design elements; even in double height spaces, placing large fixtures can cut the environment and recharge it losing the desired amplitude. Coordinate the floor design with indirect lighting and ceiling is a detail that will drive unity and an elegant set of volumes; if you opt for this idea, do not add texture or color as you will lose attention of your furniture and accessories, you can instead place classical details coordinated with your lights and so you will join even better your indoor lighting.

Lattices have returned in recent years with very avant-garde, contemporary and geometric designs; no matter how classic or modern your design is, you'll find a pattern that fit your needs, separating spaces into free environments while maintaining fluid visuals. These elements will help to provide some privacy to the spaces and add texture, light and color; we recommend fine lines to maintain communication between environments and not lose the amplitude idea, however as they are not architectural elements, forget monochrome and use some color contrasting or harmonizing with the colors you've chosen for your floor mats, main materials or fixtures.

To finish your design, you can see the Pantone color palette or you can lean on a classic style that will not go out of fashion. If you choose the first option, see the previous blog entries where we talked about the colors in vogue but if that option is not what you want, always remember that the furniture upholstered in leather, either smooth or textured, is basic for elegant and simple designs. If you followed our choices and have a monochrome space with only some details in harmony colors, remember to include some contrast with your furniture colors and textures selection; we recommend furs and carpets in ocher, brown and terracotta, these colors will keep your space simple and allow you to add color accents within a very wide range such as oranges, greens, blues and grays. Do not forget to include natural vegetation, some glitter and highly personalized details such as photographs and portraits.

Celosías: tendencias para espacios abiertos

Desde hace mucho tiempo la arquitectura ha apostado por los espacios abiertos y las plantas libres, generando visuales más amplias y fluidas en las que interviene más la disposición de los elementos arquitectónicos que sus medidas, generando sensaciones de amplitud y libertad.  Las salas y comedores que hace muchos años eran espacios independientes separados por muros, ahora están conectados no sólo entre ellos sino también con las cocinas, que de ser áreas de servicio se han convertido en uno de los focos que recibe más atención en nuestros hogares.  Diseñar estos grandes espacios es una tarea fundamental; si no sabemos cómo mezclar cada uno de los elementos que queremos incorporar en ellos, podríamos obtener ambientes que más allá de verse grandes e iluminados, puedan convertirse ya sea en vacíos o abarrotados espacios.

Los colores claros siempre nos ayudarán a tener espacios más iluminados y visualmente más amplios; si se trata de una planta fluida, nos servirán también para dar unidad a nuestros muros y si añadimos un poco de textura, también un poco de brillo y un discreto juego de luces y sombras.  Los repellados medios nos ayudan a hacer este efecto, no son tan rugosos para aparentar superficies rústicas ni tan lisos para generar monotonía y aburrimiento.  En cuanto al color, los blancos avejentados, beiges y grises afrancesados son opciones que debemos tener en mente pues son sumamente combinables con todos los muebles y accesorios, por lo que tendremos muchas alternativas de dónde escoger, su tonalidad es sumamente cálida y acogedora y además se han vuelto a posicionar como colores base para el diseño de interiores en los últimos años, incluyendo la carpintería que ha apostado por maderas naturales como el encino, el maple y el roble.

Las cortinas y persianas juegan un papel importante en el diseño de los muros; para lograr la continuidad que deseamos es importante escoger elementos de líneas simples que no atraigan nuestra atención y mantengan el color de las paredes.  Para un diseño contemporáneo y simple, recomendamos persianas romanas o enrollables de tela al color de los muros, no resaltarán del contexto y agregarán detalles de iluminación muy interesantes; si deseas espacios clásicos, puedes incorporar cortinas lisas de tela pero definitivamente olvida las persianas a menos que estés diseñando una oficina o sala de juntas.

Ya que optamos por muros fluidos, debemos tener cuidado con el diseño de pisos que nos ayudará a definir nuestros espacios y sobre todo, facilitarán la colocación de nuestros muebles.  Los tapetes de pisos cerámicos, mármol y madera son una opción sencilla que podemos relacionar con los demás elementos de nuestro interior sin necesidad de ganar demasiado protagonismo.  Un ligero cambio de colores y texturas sirve para dividir adecuadamente nuestros ambientes; manteniendo la monocromía, puedes escoger cerámicos o  mármoles en tonos crema, marfil y rosados de gran tamaño colocados sin junta, evitando así que la separación entre las piezas nos distraiga de la amplitud que queremos lograr, o duelas naturales de colores claros.   Los pisos brillantes ayudarán a mantener la amplitud sin embargo requieren limpieza y mantenimiento constante, contrario a los acabados mate que disimularán más el polvo pero visualmente reducirán la iluminación y la dimensión del espacio; para obtener los beneficios de ambos, te recomendamos un acabado satinado o aterciopelado, así mantendrás los reflejos y la iluminación con un bajo mantenimiento.

Los plafones continuos en áreas fluidas son aburridos y pueden opacar tus interiores; te recomendamos jugar con iluminación indirecta en tonos cálidos, logrando espacios acogedores y limpios a los que puedes agregar sistemas de atenuación obteniendo así una infinidad de ambientes y acompañarlos con iluminación directa generando focos de atención independientes en cada uno de tus espacios.  Los candelabros son una opción muy atractiva pero es importante que midas la altura disponible pues debes respetar la escala de todos tus elementos; aún en espacios de doble altura, la colocación de luminarias muy grandes pueden recortar el espacio y recargarlo, perdiendo la amplitud deseada.  Coordinar los tapetes del piso con los plafones y la iluminación indirecta es un detalle que dará unidad y un elegante juego de volúmenes; si optas por esta idea, no agregues textura ni color pues llevarás la atención de tu espacio a las alturas perdiendo el atractivo de tus muebles y accesorios, coloca mejor detalles clásicos coordinados con tus luminarias y así integrarás aún mejor tus interiores con la iluminación.

Las celosías han regresado en los últimos años con diseños geométricos contemporáneos y muy vanguardistas; sin importar lo clásico o moderno de tu diseño, encontrarás un patrón que se ajustará a tus necesidades, separando las plantas libres en ambientes independientes pero manteniendo visuales muy fluidas.  Estos elementos te ayudarán a brindar un poco de privacidad a los espacios y agregarles texturas, luces y color;  te recomendamos líneas finas para mantener la comunicación entre los ambientes y no perder la idea de amplitud sin embargo, al no ser parte de los elementos arquitectónicos,  olvida la monocromía y añádeles un poco de color contrastando o armonizando con los colores que has escogido para tus tapetes en piso o muros. 

Para terminar tu diseño, puedes consultar la paleta de colores que Pantone ofrece cada año o puedes inclinarte por un estilo clásico que no pase de moda.  Si te decides por la primera opción, consulta las entradas anteriores del blog donde hemos hablado de los colores en boga pero si esa opción no es lo que buscas, recuerda siempre que los muebles tapizados en piel, ya sea lisa o texturizada, son básicos para diseños elegantes y simples.  Si has seguido nuestras elecciones y tienes un espacio monocromático únicamente con algunos detalles de color en armonía, recuerda contrastar con la selección de colores y texturas de tus muebles atrayendo la vista hacia los diferentes ambientes; te recomendamos pieles y tapices ocres, cafés y terracotas, estos colores mantendrán simples tus espacios y te permitirán agregar acentos de color dentro de una gama muy variada como naranjas, verdes, azules y grises.   No olvides incluir vegetación natural, un poco de brillo y detalles sumamente personalizados como fotografías y portarretratos.
