Marsala or Minion Yellow?

Contrary to expectations for the design and fashion world, Pantone Color Institute dismissed the blues and chose Marsala as 2015 color that in its own terms, "exudes sophistication and an earthly nature bringing warmth to the interiors". A certainly appropriate color for vintage style that has now filled design houses and mixes beautifully with old whites, light woods, floral tapestries, upholstry armchairs and exposed brick walls, either coated in neutral tones or in its natural annealed clay color. The color Marsala takes us back to the elegant Victorian residences in the late nineteenth century but also to traditional Mexican haciendas of the XVI century, inked with Cochineal or Mexican Red that rises in Mesoamerican cultures and was highly widespread in Europe during the colonial era.

Could we have even more surprises? Definitely! Pantone announced few days ago the creation of a brand new color which will be trend this year: Minion Yellow. Do you find familiar this name? This is the first character based color created and the Minions were chosen to receive such an honor; described by Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone as "... a color that raises awareness and creates clarity, illuminating the path to intelligence, originality and ingenuity of an open mind - this is the color of hope, joy and optimism". Minion Yellow is far from the citrus colors we saw endlessly few years ago so forget the gaudy and saturated ones; like Marsala, you need to combine it with a vintage style that will take us to the old whites, gray and blue in neutral tones and if you want to risk, you can include some black details.

No need to panic; this year it seems we will have no only one option but two great colors to design our favorite spaces. The rules are the same and if you've forgotten, it's time to re-read A little bit of color and 2015 Interiors. Before making any final changes, we recommend analyzing your environment very well and make small changes that can be reversible if you are not completely satisfied; remember that each year there will be new proposals and if you want to be the last word in fashion, it is important to follow trends and not only the color of the year. Neutral furnishings combine perfectly with the tone of your choice and you can add color to walls and details that do not exceed your budget or require dramatic changes. The accessories provide touches of color without cluttering your spaces and are easily available in the local furniture and décor stores, but if the options you have on hand not meet your design intentions, you can always make them yourself.

An old steel lamp can become the star element of that special corner, no matter if you find it in a flea market or take it out of the dusty closet in the attic. The first thing to do is to remove all the wiring to prevent any damage and clean all surfaces to perfection; if the paint is in poor condition you can sand it or remove it with solvents and once removed, it is ready for you to apply the color of your choice. The finish can be matte, velvety or brilliant, depending on how you expect to harmonize or contrast with the other elements and the combination is completely to your liking: a neutral base with a color screen, a base color with a neutral screen or base and screen in the same tone; you decide how risky your design could be. Now that you've finished the outside, it is time to wire it and place it wherever you want.

If a lamp is not enough, the wooden furniture are also very easy to paint; keep in mind that although it is more expensive, natural wood will always be more durable. Must clean and sand the surface with fine sandpaper to remove the existing finish, and once you've removed it, it is important to seal the surface and then apply the ink or paint you choose; if you make this work carefully, one hand may be sufficient to achieve the image you want. Particle panels or clusters wear out easily and you should keep them away from the water; to change their image you can apply paint directly on the surface or put some plastic membrane in any finished you choose; clear the protective plastic slowly to avoid leaving wrinkles or air bubbles and lean with a wet rag. If you have no experience in this, you could buy a removable membrane which does not stick to the contact so you can fix any errors in the process.

We hope these tips will be useful. If you want more options, follow us on the blog or contact us through our social networks or call us to (624) 1431246. Having the space of your dreams is at your fingertips.
