Few weeks ago we met closely Sarahuaro Foundation, a private non-profit organization that supports women and children in vulnerable situation, providing productive options to improve their quality of life. They participate with proper alimentation, regularization classes and workshops, besides selling all the products that women produce, increasing household incomes and supporting the construction of a more equitable, just and caring society. With the support of Grassroots Global Development Foundation and the participation of Architecture for Humanity chapter Monterrey, they will built shortly their headquarters in San Jose del Cabo and with Cabo Hurricane Fund, they will participate in the reconstruction of housing for the population affected by Hurricane Odile, uniting and teaching building systems to the community that can be repeated to improve the environment in which they live.
The life of civil associations in our country is not easy; funds depend most on the products they sell, voluntary donations from individuals and businesses and the events they organize for the general public, so the realization of major projects like the previous two we mentioned, require time and patience. As part of the society of Los Cabos, we have many ways to support and give back a little to our town; if our economy does not allow us to make donations, we can offer our time to give workshops from our areas of expertise, publicizing the association and their events by mouth and through our networks or simply assisting to them providing a grain of sand while we enjoy cultural spaces and have some fun with our friends.
On Monday 18 was the concert and cocktail Luna para Sarahuaro, a charity event for the association in search of greater funds to build its headquarters in Mesa Colorada. The gala was held at Pabellón Cultural de la República Nabor Garcia Aguirre and included the participation of the fabulous Luna Itzell, a local singer who fuses the ancient Mexican music with different genres such as jazz, rock, trova and latin pop; a fabulous concert in which we heard 20 pieces including traditional letters of Mexican vernacular music as Cucurrucucú or La Feria de San Marcos, some lyrics in English as Somewhere over the rainbow to which provided a unique musical arrangement and themes of her own inspiration as La Tierra and Colibríes. After an excellent concert, the evening ended with a delicious catering of Solomon's Sushi Bar, surrounded by friends in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere, just the cherry on the cake for this great event.
The fusion was magnificent; not only because the attendees were able to support a foundation as Sarahuaro but to enjoy the local artist Luna Itzell presentation, who has all the talent to bring up the name of Los Cabos and our country to the world. And like her, there is a whole group of talented local people who have something to offer: painters, sculptors, chefs, architects, interior designers and a whole group of artists and professionals who as part of the society in which we live, can offer real alternatives to the problems we face and provide important pieces to the collective culture. The presentation of "recognized" showbiz events in the municipality and the state, instead of preferring regional artists, weakens our society and contributes to gradually lose our identity; however this situation is no different from the big hotels that hire international firms for the design and construction of their properties or restaurants that import internationally recognized chefs instead of opening options for such talented residents with whom we live day to day.
From Luna para Sarahuaro must stay two proposals that we should not leave out of our activities: to work in our community to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable and to support our local talent to grow all as a society. We invite you to join this proposal; in addition to the foundation that today we present, there are a number of other organizations with which you can zoom in to work... it may be that which is closest to your home or your office or the one to which you have a higher affinity to the work they do, as well as to meet the people in our community who can offer their services and products to you. Soon we will post on this blog how we join to work for our community... there is no small work if we sum all in a common project to make great contributions.
